How to Plan a Trekking trip to Indrahar from Dharamshala Mcleodganj

The Indrahar Pass Trek is one of the most beautiful and a popular trekking route near Dharamshala and Mcleodganj. It is in the Dhaula Dhār range of the Himalayas, and you need to come to Dharamshala to visit this place.  Dharamshala has many famous trekking points like Triund, Ilaka, Kareri Lake and others, but Indrahar is one of the challenging and scenic treks that offers breathtaking and panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, lush green Deodar valleys, and a variety of flora and fauna.

Indrahar Trek Duration: You need to come prepared for a week to do this trek as it usually takes around 4 to 5 days to complete the journey. 

Difficulty Level of Indrahar Pass Trek: This trek is not very difficult; however, it is moderately difficult trek. On the way you will have to negotiate some steep ascents and descents, some rocky terrains, and some glaciers and snow. Please make sure that you have some prior trekking experience and a good level of physical fitness are if you are planning Indrahar Pass Trekking 

Suggested Trek Itinerary for Indrahar Pass: Usually this itinerary is followed to do Indrahaar Pass Trek 

  • Day 1 at Triund: Start your trek from Dharamkot near McLeod Ganj and reach Triund Hill (8km) - Enjoy the mesmerizing views atTriund, at night enjoy watching the stars. Triund offers a scenic meadow with panoramic views of Kangra Valley and the snowcapped Dhauladhar range. 

  • Day 2: at Ilaka or Laka Got: After enjoying the morning at Triund start your journey through the beautiful landscapes to Ilaqa. This place is also known as LAKA JOT and is around 6 kilometers from Triund. It is a beautiful camping spot, where you can enjoy your night at the base of the Indrahar Pass. 

  • Day 3: ILaka to Indrahar Pass and back to Laka Got Same day: You need to start early as this day is going to be very challenging. You will start your trail through the beautiful and serene views to the Indrahar Pass which is located at an altitude of around 4,300 meters. The weather conditions are not very conducive here and therefore stay at night is not advisable at Indrahar Pass. You need to return to ILaka Got for the night stay. 

  • Day 4: ILaka Got to McLeod Ganj: - This is your final day and you will travel back to Mcleodganj via Triund today. 




 

Do I need a Permit to Indrahar Pass Trekking: The answer to this question is YES. You need to get a permit from Forest Department when you are planning a trek to any Dhauladhar range including Indrahar Pass Trek.  

 

Best Time to go on a Trek to Indrahar Pass: May to October months is when you can plan your trekking trip to Indrahaar Pass. The weather will be pleasant during the day but still it will be chilling at the night during this period. You will find clear skies and trekking conditions are also favorable trekking. 

 

It is advisable to hire a professional guide if you are going for the first time. The weather conditions can change and it may snow or rain any time during the trek so you need to be well-prepared for the trek. Please carry appropriate trekking gear, sufficient food including dry fruits. Water scarcity is there so do carry enough water, and respect the nature, do not litter on the hills and always follow responsible trekking practices.
