The Divided Opposition may not get any benefit from the highly publicized farmers protest
All the opposition parties are lending their whole hearted support to the protesting farmers. be it Congress, AAP, SP, BSP, Shiv Sena or any other opposition party of India. However the question is will this support to the agitating farmers help the opposition in the elctions?
Every party is trying to be politically relevant on the issue of farm laws and claiming to be with the farmers. All the parties are competing with each other to garner the support of public while supporting the farmers.
The opposition has no clear cut narrative and are just speaking the language of leaders of the famer unions that he government should repeal the farm laws.
The violence by so called farmers during the tractor parade on 26th January has not gone down well with the general public. The perception changed a bit and went in favour of the ruling government. The highways are closed for so many months and the people doing business near the protest sites have started losing their patience.
The threatening speeches by the leaders that they will gherao the parliament or bring 40 lakh tractors to Delhi is also not welcomed by the general public.
Furthermore the protests are limited and the government is also in no mood to repeal the new farm laws.
In the coming days we may see new twists and turns in this protest. The tweets in support of protesting farmers by Rihanna, Mia Khalifa, Greta Thunburg were welcomed by the opposition and farmers. In response to this the Indian celebrities are tweeting #IndiaTogether and advised the foreigners to stay away from internal Indian matter.
Time will tell whether the opposition will get some benefit from this protest or the people will stick to BJP and Modi.
