Role of Rahul Gandhi in Grand Alliance of Opposition

It seems that Mahagathwandan is the only way out for opposition in 2019 elections. Can a Grand alliance be formed by the opposition in 2019 is still a question mark. 

The way ahead for opposition is not easy and there are many hurdles in forming the Grand alliance, the major being who will lead the alliance. The seat sharing is another big trouble for the alliance in 2019. How many seats will be shared between parties in each state? How will the leaders convince their grass root workers who were campaigning against each other in election after election in the past?

What will happen to the aspiring candidate of BSP in the seat which will be given to SP and vice versa?

TMC and NC has no presence in UP. Will they also get some share of seats in UP. Similarly SP BSP and others have no presence in Bengal. How many seats Didi will share with them?

We can anticipate lot of problems ahead for the opposition in the coming months unlike BJP which is confident of winning enough seats to form the government in 2019. Although they are aware that it might put an end to their winning spree in 2019

Assume that all the parties form a Mahagathwandan amicably before 2019 and are able to convince the public about their agenda and garner enough votes to defeat BJP. 

See below a hypothetical chart which shows how many seats each party will win in case of Mahagathwandhan,(the grand alliance of opposition parties) succeeds to stop Modi in 2019

Assuming that the opposition will get this kind of mandate, then Rahul's score is better than his partners

Rahul is at the top scoring 72 seats, while Mamata is second at 36 followed by Mayawati 32 and Akhilesh 30

BJPs total tally is 241 and need at least 31 more seats to form a government again. If say Shiv Sena with 9 seats and few other small parties support BJP then we can see Modi again.

However if the United Opposition with support of others want to form a government then who will be the PM candidate?

Are we going to see a Dalit PM in 2019?

Scenario 1-  Simple way to choose will be the party having highest number of seats and that is Congress in this case. Rahul will be the first choice for PM. But this will only happen when the opposition has agreed and declared before forming the grand alliance  that party with maximum seats will get the PM seat

Scenario 2 - The Alliance was formed without announcing PM candidate. In that case we can see some internal fights between the parties to make their leader PM. SP, BSP, TMC, Congress will all pitch in for their respective leaders. 

Scenario 3- Since Congress do not want to leave the power go from hands may propose a Muslim Candidate like Hamid Ansari as a PM candidate. It would be difficult for the alliance to oppose such a move as most of the parties are known to appease Muslim vote bank. The Sonia Rahul combine will be indirectly ruling the nation

Scenario 3 - Amidst confusion and difference of opinions between the parties for PM candidate, Sharad Pawar may propose Mayawati as the first Dalit Prime Minister of India, another move that may be acceptable to the alliance.

Scenario 4 -Seeing Amit Shah and BJP being active talking with some Independent MPs and fearing that BJP may try to form the government, Congress may propose a name from Tamil Nadu and the other parties sensing that Amit Shah's Blitzkrieg may immediately agree to their choice

All in all 2019 will be an interesting elections and it will not be a cake walk for BJP if the Grand Alliance is successfully formed

If BJP wins in 2019 India will become Hindu Pakistan, democracy won’t survive if BJP wins in 2019 says Shashi Tharoor, the congress MP from Kerala.

All of a sudden we have witnessed a spur in such kind of anti BJP statements from various congress leaders

Earlier the senior congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge took a jibe at Modi by saying that Chaiwala could become PM because congress preserved the democracy in India. Rahul Gandhi is meeting the Muslim leaders to appease the minority vote bank.

And now we see Hamid Ansari the Ex Vice President appeared on media after a long time continued from where he left. The Muslims feel insecure in the Modi regime he has said before retirement. And now the former VP backs AIMPLB’s proposal of pan-Inda Sharia Courts.

“People are confusing social practices with the legal system. Our law recognises that each community can have its own rules. The personal law in India covers marriage, divorce, adoption, and inheritance. Each community has a right to practice its own personal laws,” Ansari said while responding to a question on Shariat courts.

Ansari also backed the students of the Aligarh Muslim University for protesting against the removal of the portrait of Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah. If we can have Victoria Memorial why can’t we have portrait of Jinnah

Mr Ansari is an intellectual and has served as a diplomat in many countries. Very small percentage of Muslims goes for higher studies in India. The living condition of majority of Muslims is also not very good as compared to other communities. Various parties after Independence have used the Muslims as vote bank without helping their cause. 

Ansari is one of the few Muslims who worked hard to reach this position and after retirement he should have worked towards the development of the community. Ansari is well aware of the fact that almost 50% of Muslim population in India is illiterate. He should have helped Muslims by setting up of schools colleges for their children, modernizing the madarsas, development of Muslim colonies and Ghetaos and many other productive things.

Do we smell a bigger game plan here? The opposition is very clear that despite so many differences and different ideologies they have to come together in 2019 if they really want to tackle BJP and Modi. However the only confusion in the mind of public will be about the leader. 

Who will lead the Mahagathbandhan? Who will be the PM candidate of United Opposition? Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam Singh, Mamata Bannerjee, Sharad Pawar,Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, HD Devegauda, KCR or someone from south? None of the parties have revealed their cards yet. 

The perception created among the public is that the one with most number of seats will become PM

We also hear murmurs from the likes of Pawar and Mamata about their inhibitions to accept Rahul Gandhi as the leader of Mahagathbandhan.

Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav are still mum but there is some internal rift about seat sharing between them. However both are not very keen to share seats with INC.

What does congress do now? It’s a grand old party and very good at doing politics when we compare with other regional parties. How can they achieve the objective to stop Modi in 2019 and still rule Inda?

They may be reduced to 44 but still eyeing to rule India after 2019. Congress is aware that it is an uphill task and a masterstroke would be required to topple this government in 2019

The Grand United Opposition has hope that together they can prevent BJP from forming the government in 2019. In that case everyone feels that there will be a rift between the parties for PM candidate.

Hamid Ansari as a PM Candidate??

The masterstroke by congress would be to project a candidate who would be acceptable to all. Who better than Hamid Ansari? The opposition parties who appease Muslim vote bank will not be in a position to turn down this offer. Congress will again gain some ground and will boast of making Hamid Ansari the first Muslim PM of India. Are we in the process of making another accidental PM after MMS?

All the parties have already pulled up their socks and are all out in the battleground for 1019. The Indian public in this day and age is much aware and understands what is good or bad for the country. They will chose their PM and government accordingly. The battle of 2019 is definitely going to be very interesting with all the parties trying to woo the public with their agenda and promises

Why opposition is finding it difficult to tackle Modi

CHANGE THE NARRATIVE TO FIGHT MODI

This is a free advice to opposition parties from a common man and a citizen who supports Modi. Congress, opposition parties and their supporters are putting in their best efforts to revive their respective parties but somehow have not been able to get the desired result. Despite running huge anti Modi campaigns why these parties are unable to make even a small dent on BJP? I firmly believe that we should have a strong opposition with a logical narrative that should keep the government always on its toes.

Here are my observations why the opposition has failed to challenge BJP. This is my personal opinion and if you like it I will be happy if you don't, you have right to disagree.

Stop calling names to BJP voters.

More than 80 percent of BJP voters have nothing to do with RSS, VHP and other such organizations. They voted BJP because of the development model they projected in front of the nation. This large population believes that Modi is committed to reforms that will ultimately lead to a developed country.

If any citizen of the country says something good about his/her PM or BJP Government, he is immediately labeled a Bhakt, Sanghi or Modi propagandist. Here the opposition is faltering; calling names to a citizen who respects his/her PM is not helping their cause.

Keep in mind that the public have voted him to power, so nobody has the right to label persons just because he respects and values the nation's leader. Hurting sentiments without any logic means losing votes

Stop Blaming Modi for everything

There are many social issues and problems in our country since ages. It will take few more generations to come out of such problems. A magic wand is required to make India free from these social issues.

A road rage is not a cast fight or communal fight. However if the victim happens to be a Dalit or from minority community the opposition thinks they have got a good issue. They will start beating the drum that Modi is responsible for all this. Modi should resign blab bla.

If someone is denied any help due to a corrupt officer in a locality, Modi is responsible directly. Yes the corrupt system need to be dealt with strictly but we all know that it is so deep-rooted that will take some time

Selectively picking the issues is not helping their cause either

Opposition also needs to see the pulse of the common man. When Modi is visiting another country and addressing people over there, meeting the top dignitaries, businessmen and heads of other countries the general public and the NRIs feel proud that their PM is getting so much of respect there. The opposition is again faltering here. Don’t say words against the PM when the public at large is supporting the PM.

In a locality there is water problem, electricity issues, roads, traffic, healthcare etc etc. opposition will shout out loud on social media Modi responsible. In fact these are the opportunities for opposition to score points in public. Go to the ground level, help people resolve the issues in order to change their mindset and vote you. Just raising the issues in media, social media and doing nothing is not going to help the opposition.

Either the opposition will highlight the issues on social media or gather somewhere and shout slogans against the government. It is better to work at the ground, interact with the public, and help them to get their work done. Twitter, Face book, heated debates on TV will have little impact.

Stop Fake Propaganda

In today’s day and age when everybody has access to internet on phone spreading something fake will boomerang. You try to spread a fake news and fake propaganda and within minutes the public will show you the mirror. Everyone is mature enough to understand what is true and what is fake. The fake news, abusive language will highlight you in the public but can never fetch you votes. The voter is smart enough you know that.

How can someone think of spreading FAKE propaganda in today’s world? Gone are the days now, the new generation and millennial hate the propaganda politics. They want logic in a narrative.

The fake news stories will not work in the future as the Indian public is well informed and intelligent now. You cannot make fool out of them now, gone are the days when the politicians befooled them for votes.

Stop Appeasement Politics

The opposition should understand that appeasing a particular minority community for votes is not going to help now. The community has also understood that they were treated a mere vote bank and nothing has been done for their betterment. Appeasing a minority community means losing votes of the majority community. Be secular and that doesn’t mean you have to appease a particular community. The only agenda that will work in the future would be development. The youth of this country is literate now and want to see a developed nation without and cast or religion politics.  

Playing the communal card by the opposition is going to cost them dear as the more they will try to appease the minority the more this country will see polarization and that is going to help BJP as they will get more support from the majority community in this country.

Stop Abusive language

Generally people who have failed and are left with no logic start using derogatory and abusive words. Abusive language by the opposition against the PM, government, ministers gives the indication that they have no narrative and out of frustration the opposition is using abusive words or trying to demean the PM or top leaders. Need to maintain certain decorum and discipline in front of the public from whom you are asking for votes.

Way Forward

The propaganda managers of all the parties who are working day and night on Facebook and social media to demean each other should be trained again as they have already exposed themselves in the eye of general public. Their campaigns are not working now.

The only way out is to reach to the people, talk to them but talk sense and help them overcome their problems rather than lecturing them or abusing the government. Work on the states where you are in power and showcase it to the public while asking for the votes.

Rest it is up to the parties how they are going to strategize their future campaigns.
