Zomato And Swiggy starting "liquor at home" service
As soon as the Wine shops were opened after completion of Lockdown 2 a lot of chaos was seen across all the states in India. The people thronged to the liquor shops breaking all the Lockdown norms of social distancing leading to police action in many areas.
Mumbai banned the sale of loquor immediately after the chaos. However other states continued the sale. The reason behind opening the shops is the revenue loss that the governments are facing amid Covid-19 Pndemic.
Now here is a good news for the people who drinks and doen't want to go outside and risk their lives. The online delivery of wine is starting soon. The Indian food delivery company Zomato is planning to deliver liquor at home and the process of getting approvals is on.
According to a report in Reuters Swiggy is also planning to deliver Liquor.
“We believe that a technology-enabled home delivery based solution can promote responsible consumption of alcohol,” Mohit Gupta, Zomato’s CEO for food delivery, wrote in a business proposal, Reuters reported. India currently has no legal provisions of home deliveries of alcohol. However, industry body International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI) is lobbying to change the same along with Zomato and others.
Zomato and Swiggy used to deliver food pre-Covid-19. However after the pandemic spread and when all the restaurants were closed the two companies started delivering essential items and groceries. This helped in survival of these two big companies. Now the companies are expecting a huge surge in the orders for liquor. Therefore they have hired thousands of new employees to cater to the high demand
